The Interessengemeinschaft Leichtbau, or igeL e. V. for short, was founded in Herford in 2008 with the aim of creating a cooperation network that promotes and disseminates the idea of lightweight construction in interior design and the furniture industry and, to this end, brings together experts from research and teaching, business, and industrial and craft practice at all processing stages.

The non-profit association has around 90 members from the fields of mechanical engineering, the furniture and furniture supply industry, crafts and interior design, the caravan industry, the furniture trade, research and development.

igeL e. V. is a neutral platform; accordingly, many market players are members of the association.

Knowledge transfer takes place through lightweight construction symposia, excursions to companies, web conferences, as well as through involvement in the igeL working groups and through participation in trade fairs.
